The first session is focused on gathering information, developing treatment goals, and establishing a working relationship to build upon in future sessions. Brief psychological assessments are often used to assess symptom severity and to ensure an accurate diagnosis, when necessary. This is also the session that necessary paperwork is completed for medical records.
